If you are going to reparent yourself (and most of us need to), it is best to start at the youngest possible age, i.e. infancy. Bouncing, rocking, and patting are actions that we have all seen mothers use to soothe a baby’s nervous system. They work on the adult nervous system as well, and they are all included as parts of tai chi. In the opening exercise often known as “shake like a tree”, you bounce yourself. If you do “shake like a bear” correctly you will rock yourself. And during the closing you pat yourself. All of these are forms of self care you can treat yourself to at any time, at any age that help condition the nervous system for peace and tranquility.
